Paid listening session for community media journalists April 15
Community media journalists: What do you need to tell better health stories? Our Chicago Community, Media & Research Partnership will pay you to tell us!
In this online listening session on Thursday, April 15, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. CT, Chicago community media journalists are invited to share your perspectives and experiences on health journalism, using health research in your stories, and how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed how you cover health or your community.
Participants will be guided through these conversations in small-group breakout sessions led by Maudlyne Ihejirika (president of NABJ-Chicago and Chicago Journalists Association, and Chicago Sun-Times columnist), Jesús Del Toro (Editor-in-Chief of La Raza), Yazmin Dominguez (coordinator of the Chicago Independent Media Alliance), and Jhmira Alexander (Executive Director of Public Narrative). Each conversation will be recorded and documented. Afterwards, your input will be shared with health researchers and community stakeholders to improve how they engage community media to reach populations in Chicagoland most impacted by health inequities.
This event is for Chicagoland journalists who work for community and/or independent media outlets that serve specific community areas, and/or serve African American, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Native American, LGBTQ or immigrant communities. Each journalist who participates in the session will receive a $150 gift card.
This listening session is being held by our Chicago, Community, Media & Research Partnership, a two-year project led collaboratively by Public Narrative and Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities (ARCC) at Northwestern University, and funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).
