Dear friends of Public Narrative,

In more than 18 months, we’ve seen many of our friends and colleagues pivot their work in ways to best suit their audiences as we rebuild better — together.

Please join us Wednesday, November 3, and Thursday, November 4, for events exploring narrative change in Chicago, as well as the role that nonprofits, institutions, government, and the media play in shaping narratives about our world.

Wednesday, November 3, at 5:30 p.m. CT, Justin Kauffman of Axios Chicago will moderate "Navigating Change," a virtual panel including Chris Goins (Impact Leader of the MBK Alliance Chicago), Jen Brown (Co-Executive Director of the Alliance for Research in Chicagoland Communities), Niketa Brar (Co-Founder and Executive Director of Chicago United for Equity) and Vanessa Westley (President of H2S Educational Consultants LLC). Thursday, November 4, at 5:30 p.m. CT at the IIT Institute of Design's Action Lab, Cheryl Dahle (Managing Director of the Action Lab) will moderate an in-person conversation on the importance of framing stories using a community-based lens, how "outsider" perspectives can create harmful and inaccurate perceptions, and the responsibility of media to include community voices in its coverage. The panel will feature Judith McCray (President of Juneteenth Productions), Tonika Lewis Johnson (Creator of the Folded Map Project) and Elissa Yancey (Co-founder of A Picture's Worth). There's no cost to attend, but tickets are limited for COVID safety. Boxed dinners will be provided, and masks are required. Click here to register.
